What We Do

The essence of Christian faith is all about exploring the meaning of life and finding out what matters. Grovely Parish has a very active faith community and invites you to join us as we "explore faith" together. Please do not hesitate to contact us with questions or for more information.

Come to the Waters

Come to the Waters is a program run in the parish to help families and Godparents prepare for their children's baptisms in a friendly and supportive setting.

Saints Alive!

Fourth Sunday of the month, 4.30 pm, All Saints' Church
We began this user-friendly service to keep exploring the themes of being family (and of being part of God's family), that we begin discussing with those of you we meet for the baptisms of your children. With easy to learn, and lively, music, some drama (with puppets proving very popular!), and some teaching on talking to God in a way that is true to yourself, Saints Alive! has been welcomed and enjoyed by families. We always finish with food so that children can go home fed and watered, ready for bed if necessary! We aim for no longer than an hour; come check it out!

Pram Service

First Tuesday of the month, 10 am, St Matthew's Hall
A time of great fun and relaxed "worship" as Rev'd. Jan dances around with the very young and tells stories geared right to their age level. We enjoy making an activity to take home, and also undertake a social justice project for the community (this year will help the Homework Club for the Anglican Refugee and Migrant Services). We conclude with morning tea, all well under an hour. Come and see what "Playschool with Jesus" is like!

Small Groups

This parish has a commitment to OPEN GROUPS - that is, open and available to anyone inquiring and looking at God's word and connection with this world.

We are now preparing for some small group learning in the "green time" of the church's year, so watch this space for opportunities and offerings.

  • Being a Christian in this day and age: 8 sessions, fortnightly
  • The Bible: the bits we avoid: 5 sessions, fortnightly

It is VERY IMPORTANT that you communicate what you would like to see offered, to grow and form your faith. Please talk to Rev'd Jan 3855 1314.

There are also several people reading various "good books" at present - please see Rev'd Jan or Elaine Robinson, if you would like to read any of the following, and if you would be interested in discussion group(s) for any of them:

  • The Shack, by Wm Paul Young
  • Everything Must Change: When the World's Biggest Problems and Jesus' Good News Collide, by Brian D McLaren
  • The Return of the Prodigal Son, by Henri J M Nouwen

Sunday School

The parish Sunday School runs during the 9 am service at All Saints' church, during school term. It caters for primary school children, prep age and above. There is a Children's area in the All Saints' church for younger children, with a sound system to provide the service for parents. Inquiries to Jan Dellit 07 3351 3034.

Choir

Always open to new members! The parish choir leads the Sung Eucharist at 9am each Sunday
at All Saints' church. They practice each Tuesday evening, and welcome new participants.

Mothers' Union

MU Australia is a part of the World Wide Mothers' Union which has over one million members in seventy countries. Within the Anglican Communion, members carry out ministry in support of marriage and family life.

Nursing Home Services

Rev'd. Jan presides over Eucharist at the following nursing homes:

  • Bellevue Nursing Home, Ferny Grove on the first Thursday of the month
  • Madonna Villa Nursing Home, Mitchelton on the third Tuesday of the month
  • Moonah Park Nursing Home, Oxford Park on second Thursday of the month
  • Regis Nursing Home, Ferny Grove on the fourth Tuesday of the month

Cursillo

Cursillo is a worldwide movement of the Christian Church which aims to Christianize environments through small Christian communities committed to living and spreading the Gospel.
The Spanish word "cursillo" means "a short course". It is important to understand that Cursillo is a Movement of the Church, it is certainly not a sect or a spiritually-elite group of people. The movement endeavors to work alongside and with the Parish family to fulfil God's calling by spreading God's love and proclaiming the Gospel. All activities of Cursillo are broadly centered around - Worship, Study, and Action.
Overall responsibility for ensuring that the movement in this Diocese remains faithful to its ideals within the Church rests with one of the Regional Bishops (at present Bishop Rob Nolan). Aiding him and reporting to him are - the Secretariat and regional Servant Communities - small groups of voluntary leaders made up of Clergy and lay people.
In our Parish, there are 34 Cursillistas who work alongside the Grovely Parish Faith Community and are all deeply involved in the mission and activities of our Parish. All activities of the Cursillo Movement are open to anyone who is interested in attending.

Angligreen

At 2007 Synod, Angligreen was officially adopted as an agency of the Diocese under the umbrella of the Parishes and Other Mission Agencies Commission. One of the aims is to encourage all parishes to have a small off-shoot group which will work within their own parish. Our Parish Council has given the go ahead for Grovely.
Angligreen's vision, through the recognition that Creation is God's gift for all time, is to safeguard the integrity of all Creation for future generations by working with God to restore and maintain a balance where the earth and all creatures are treated with respect.
Angligreen resolves to care for and sustain God's Creation by:

  • Bringing prayers and actions concerning environmental care, justice, human rights and sustainability to the forefront of our public worship and private study and reflection.
  • Publicising developments, events, publications and sources of information on the environment across the Diocese and its parishes.
  • Providing opportunities throughout the Diocese for enjoyable experiences of nature
  • Encouraging members of the Diocese at all levels to be better informed.
  • Encouraging all organizational levels within the Diocese to commit to the seven R's of environmental care:
o REVERENCE for all creation
o REFUSE to use resources unnecessarily
o REDUCE consumption and waste
o REUSE resources where appropriate
o RECYCLE materials where possible
o REPAIR rather than throw away
o RESTORE habitat and ecosystems
  • Calling on all agencies and Parishes to carry out an audit to assess the impact of their present activities and any proposed activities on the environment.
