Marrying at Grovely Parish

Congratulations on your engagement and wedding decision! It is wonderful that you have found your life partner, and that you want God's blessing on your lives together.  The Anglican Church regards marriage as one of the acraments of life and the church. We therefore take it very seriously, as reflected in the words at the beginning of the service:

Marriage is therefore to be honoured by all. No one should enter it lightly or selfishly, but responsibly and joyfully, with mutual respect and the promise to be faithful.

It is also a legal ceremony, so there are steps along the way that must be completed, by Commonwealth Law. Provided is a list to guide you as you plan your wedding:

Marriage Preparation

We ask that you participate in one of the Marriage Preparation courses offered by the church. KINections has a variety of courses, and gives good, professional and enjoyable group or individual preparation (usually one day only). You can reach KINections by phoning 3435 4300.

First meeting with the Parish Priest

Takes place once you have completed a "Notice of Intended Marriage." However, this cannot take place more than six months before the wedding date; that is, you meet with Rev'd Jan between 1 to 6 months before your wedding. In that time, we complete the legal requirements of that form, and begin to discuss the wedding service.

Subsequent meetings with the Parish Priest

We meet again before the service is finalised, and then in the week before the wedding. The final meeting is usually the practice of the wedding, and the signing of the declaration of "no impediment" to your marriage. This must take place during the seven days before your wedding day. At that practice, which involves all the wedding party, you would also give the priest the fees (see below).

Flowers and music

These need to be arranged by you with the appropriate parish contacts which will be provided once you have booked your wedding with Rev'd Jan.  These women will help you with choice of music, and with the flowers and decorations, matching your bridesmaids colours, etc. Please ring the parish contacts at least three months before your wedding.

Fees

The total fee for a wedding in Grovely Parish is $500. This includes the costs for the church, the priest, the flowers, and the musician. This money should be given to the parish priest at the rehearsal. The fee is negotiable according to your own financial circumstance. Please talk to the parish priest if needed - the amount of the fee is not to be the reason you are unable to be married in one of the parish churches.

Wedding Service Sheet

Our parish secretary is able to produce your wedding service sheet if you so desire. Please talk to Rev'd Jan or contact the parish office to enquire about this process.

Bookings

If you are planning your wedding, we invite you to speak to Rev'd. Jan about marrying in All Saints' church or St Matthew's church.  Please contact Rev'd. Jan for more information and to check availability.
